I looked at these at REI. I purchased them at 1/2 price. The boot is well thought designed. Out of the box comfortable with increasing comfort after several weeks of daily carpentry work. The mid height is perfect support. Vibram sole is dependable and sure footed. Front toe and heel protectors give confidence.

High-performing hiking shoe, tight fit

The fit for me is slightly tight, such that I can't get these on with just one hand. That being said, I feel like I appreciate the fit being a bit tighter when I'm out in the field. Going downhill, I feel like a looser fit means I'm sliding down and crushing my toes; so I think this is a pretty appropriate fit. Hiking wise, this shoe definitely performs. After one season of use, the only sign of any usage is some slight separation in the very back heel, where the black rubber sole is peeling slightly. It's less useful to me as a casual shoe as well (too hard to get on in a hurry) which probably would earn my 5th star. For $100 sale price however, the value is outrageous.
