The warmth of this hat is great for active-wear down to about 20F. IMO, a warm hood would be required below that, or above if windy. Regarding warmth and function, it’s great and not overly bulky. However, I’d prefer if the fit was smaller in diameter so the elastic could actually do something. Per Carhartt size measurement, I needed a L/XL, which is odd because my noggin prefers smaller hat sizes. Received and it was too large (loose and deep fit), so I gifted it. Ordered another in M/L and the depth is spot on (doesn’t fit too low/deep, ear flaps perfectly cover ears), but the diameter is still loose. There’s elastic, but it’s not actually snug/small enough to stretch on my egg. If there was a S/M (there isn’t at time of this review), it would be too shallow and probably not cover my ears fully, but the elastic would probably do something to keep it on my head. Hoping it shrinks after a wash.
