Carhartt 104880 - Rain Defender® Canvas Earflap Cap

I wanted a cap with ear flaps to keep my old bald head warm and this hat does the job. I live in north Mississippi where the winters are usually mild but it’s been in the teens and single digits for a couple of weeks.This cap kept me plenty warm. the ear flap covers the back of the neck also. It runs large but it’s fine for when I’m out taking care of livestock

I read the ratings before and knew that the sizes ran big. I usually have a hard time fitting hats and have to get the biggest size. But the comments were right. This hat is extremely big and too big for me. That said, the other comments were right and even in a stiff wind, the hat does not fall off. I just wish it were a little smaller because it now sits on top of my glasses and puts downward pressure on my nose. But the design of the hat is good. It keeps the sun off my face and my ears warm. I like it so much that I may buy the smaller one too. I just hope it??s not too small.

So versatile and warm. Great for those beautiful but blindingly sunny, cold days. Arrived in its own box so it wouldn??t get crushed within the shipping bag that also contained some new clothing. L/XL is just that: extra large. I have a giant head and this fit well with a little extra room. My family thinks I look like a dork but I??m a warm dork, so joke??s on them. Highly recommend at least to embarrass your kids.

Nice cap, sturdy, well made. Have yet to test the rain repellent ability. As others have stated, and believe them, the sizing of the hat is off. I wear a 7 1/2 size hat. I ordered the L/XL and it was huge, way too big. I returned the hat and ordered the M/L size and it fits fine. I??ve never been able to wear a M/L fitted hat. In colder weather, when you lower the flaps, they don??t fit very snug to the ears. Not sure how they remedy that. Probably not my first choice when temps are in the low 20??s or below. I??m happy with the hat and I??m sure it will last for years.

The warmth of this hat is great for active-wear down to about 20F. IMO, a warm hood would be required below that, or above if windy. Regarding warmth and function, it’s great and not overly bulky. However, I’d prefer if the fit was smaller in diameter so the elastic could actually do something. Per Carhartt size measurement, I needed a L/XL, which is odd because my noggin prefers smaller hat sizes. Received and it was too large (loose and deep fit), so I gifted it. Ordered another in M/L and the depth is spot on (doesn’t fit too low/deep, ear flaps perfectly cover ears), but the diameter is still loose. There’s elastic, but it’s not actually snug/small enough to stretch on my egg. If there was a S/M (there isn’t at time of this review), it would be too shallow and probably not cover my ears fully, but the elastic would probably do something to keep it on my head. Hoping it shrinks after a wash.
