Carhartt 101405 - Newhope Sandstone Jacket - Fleece Lined

I was so excited. The corduroy.. the quilted stiching.. Everything a woman wants to be wearing while mucking around in cow poop. But alas, I'm 5' 10" and ordered a M. There's not enough length. The wind zips right up the bottom of the jacket and it's already too bulky to order a size up just for length.

I am 5'7" tall and weigh 123 lbs. I have big shoulders, been boxing for many, many years. I have been wearing Carhartt for years. Many of them ordered from this site. Always got a medium. Always fit well. Ordered a medium in this jacket and it is huge. And I do mean huge. The shoulders are 1 1/2 inches beyond mine. I measured. I can wrap it around my my body like bathrobe. It is well made and I wish it fit. They want me to pay shipping both ways. Spoke to customer service and was told Carhartt runs big. Sorry.

Although I might not have ordered this jacket had I read the description of the rectangular brick-like stitching on the outside, I decided to keep it. It is toasty warm on reasonable winter days, the duck fabric is soft enough that I can move easily, and the pockets are at just the right height for me. I am a size 8-10 and can fit a sweater underneath easily. I do wish it was a bit longer in the back, as it is replacing a worn-out barn coat that covered my hips. But it is good looking, or so my husband says! Don't know why they added that stitching, though.

If you are planning on using this as a work jacket, it will definitely do the job. It is made from very thick and high quality material and it's guaranteed to keep you warm. With that being said, if you are looking for a lightweight type jacket, this probably isn't the jacket for you. I love the look and feel (the price was great too lol). My only complaint is that, like others have mentioned, it does run large. I am a women's large and was even considering ordering an extra large (thank goodness I didn't). The large fits like an XL.

I own the woman Sierra Jacket, which is awesome, but I wanted another work jacket that was just a tad lighter weight. This jacket fits the bill and is good looking. I can wear it working on the ranch or to town. My only complaint is that is seems to run a little larger. I wish Carhartt would make jacket's especially for petite woman..5'1 not 5'4!

Work coats can be drab but I love this Newhope coat-It has style and comfort with the ruggedness I was looking for!
