I'm a 55 yr old retired career military pilot who needed STF boots for a museum flying job; I won't ruck in these but I will be on my feet for long hours. I understand that, at my age, my comfort and needs in a boot are different from someone in their 20's. I tested several types of boots and, although I did not need these Recokonings (mainly because they were not waterproof) I kept them because I liked them so much. During service I usually wore Belleville 690/790, which are excellent boots - these Danners are similar, but better overall. These boots were immediately comfortable out of the box with almost zero break-in required. They seem well constructed and a good mix of sturdy and protective without a Frankenstein feel. I also liked that they look very professional without the modern Space Trooper styling that seems to be in style. The tongue design is just right vs other manufacturers. The tread is sufficient, but even enough to allow me to use aircraft foot pedals easily. My greatest disappointment was in the Danner insoles, which I have replaced. Given that these were the most expensive boots I tried, the insoles should have been top of the line. As a side note, I also tried the Danner Resurgent and Tanicus. On paper (other than no STF rating) these boots were lighter and should have been a better choice for me - yet neither was half as comfortable. If this boot fits your mission, I would certainly give it a try. The Danner policy of free shipping and return from the company site makes it a no-brainer.
