Frequently Asked Questions

Carhartt provides technologies to keep you dry and protected in the rain. Some of these features can be found on other Carhartt products like, sweatshirts, pants, bibs, bags, footwear, and gloves

- Rain Defender® is a durable water repellent (DWR) finish that causes rain and water to bead up and roll off the exterior of a garment. While not 100% waterproof, this finish will stand up to short periods of rain and moisture

- Storm Defender® is designed to keep you dry and comfortable in wet conditions. This technology is 100% waterproof, but features a breathable lining that allows sweat and body heat to escape. In many cases, Storm Defender® products feature fully taped and sealed seams, an added feature that ensures water will stay out.

Some Carhartt rainwear is also available with Wind Fighter® technology. This fabric feature protects your skin from cutting winds.
Carhartt rainwear is equipped with unique add-ons such as: fully taped waterproof seams, double front construction, double layer knee openings for knee pads (on bib overalls), storm flaps, leg openings, oversized hoods that accommodate hard hats, and storm cuffs. Read product details carefully before buying to understand what feature set your garment is equipped with.
Carhartt rainwear is available in bibs, jackets and coats, and pants

Rainwear Jackets and Coats sit above or at the hip, depending on the style. Some styles offer a drop tail hem for added coverage when you’re reaching or bending over.

Rainwear Bibs require waist and inseam measurements to find the right fit. For your inseam, measure from your crotch to the bottom of the leg hem on a pair of pants that fit you well. Then, measure around your natural waistline to find your waist measurement. More on inseams: some Carhartt bib styles are available in either regular, short or tall lengths instead of numeric inseam. Here’s how to choose the right inseam:

- A Short inseam is for someone whose height falls between 5’3”- 5’7”. This size is equivalent to a 29-30” inseam length.

- A Regular inseam for someone whose height falls between 5’7” – 5’11”. This size is equivalent to a 31-32” inseam length

- A Tall inseam is for someone whose height falls between 5’11” – 6’3”. This size is equivalent to a 33-34” inseam length

Rainwear Pants are available in two fits: relaxed and loose.

- Relaxed Fit offers room to move with a comfortable fit through the seat and thigh

- Loose Fit offers the most room to move with ample fit through the seat and thigh
