great!! will buy It again if mine ever dies

From: Royal Oak, MI Age: 18-19 Gender: Male
I got this coat last year. It was very difficult to move in at first but after the first month and the first threw the wash it freed up. I have run this coat over lots of sharp things that would easily tear up any other coat. I have been in rainstorms and stayed dry. I have been outside at 0 degrees F with a wind of 10 mph with just a sweatshirt underneath it and loved it. I liked how they designed it big to fit lots of layers under it. My only complaint is that it is noisy to move in. That never struck me until I was siting in the deer blind on opening morning. But hey it was never advertised for hunting.

Heavy duty, but runs full size large and not as warm as advertised

From: Colfax, CA Age: 35-44 Gender: Male
Overall this jacket is nice. It is a very heavy duty material. It definitely runs a full size large. I wear a large to extra large in all other Carhartt shirts and jackets I've worn. I ordered a large and it was huge! Sent it back and got a medium and it fits well. It's not as warm as advertised. In warmer 40-50 degree weather, I have to layer. The stitching was pretty sloppy in a lot of places. Mostly around all the pockets. Lots of loose stitching and ends. I spent about 45 minutes with scissors and a lighter cleaning them all up.

Love the coat. Hate the double zipper. Would totally be happy if it came with a regular zipper.

The best arctic coat.

From: Vernon Hills, IL Age: 55-64 Gender: Male
This replaces my C003 that I had for over 10 years, holes in the sleeves and finally the zipper broke. I prefer the Cordura. They run a size large, so just size down. As others have noted you need another layer underneath for additional warmth, for the coldest days. The same sized Paxton zip front heavyweight #100614 is a great combo, you can just leave it inside the C55. Carhartt quality, none better.

This coat is great! I could not be happier with it. I work for BNSF Railway in the Pacific Northwest and need a durable coat for working around railroad equipment. It is also fits well with layering, although it is warm enough with just a sweatshirt when the temperature is around the freezing level.

Wash before wearing to soften

From: Norfolk, MA Age: 55-64 Gender: Male
When I first tried on this coat, obtained it by mail order, I thought the fabric was too stiff, but I needed something that can repel rain and snow. So, I tried washing it before wearing it on a regular basis and that made all the difference.

Water Resistant? Not Really

From: Beacon, NY Age: 65+ Gender: Male
Solid quality. This a rugged and durable coat, virtually indestructible. Branches and thorns won't tear it. Rolling on concrete doesn't phase it. The zipper is heavy and reliable. Pockets are spacious and deep, and stay attached. It needs another layer to be really warm, but is just fine if you are working. In real cold it is windproof and the black color soaks up the sun, too. The only problem I have with this coat is its water resistance, or lack thereof. It is water resistant in the same way a roll of paper towels is water resistant; namely that it takes some time to soak through. But soak through it does and it holds plenty of water once that happens. A good drenching and you won't be wanting to wear it the next day, either. Because it is so absorbant, drying out takes some time. If you buy this coat make sureto pick up a can of Camp Dry at the same time.
