Carhartt 100115 - Kalkaska Down Active Jac - Quilt Lined

I got this for my husband as a gift for Christmas. He has an outside construction job, and the winter months are miserable. he loved this jacket so much, i had to force him to work in it. He was afraid to mess it up. He loves it. I hope they continue to offer a down-filled version of the Carhartt jacket.

Carharatt makes great products and this is no exception. I weigh 225 lbs an am 5'10"". The large size fits great even with a vest on underneath. I am glad I did not select and XL size.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. The coat is very warm and fits great.I like that there wasn't an extra charge for the tall size.All clothing stores should do that.The coat came quickly and the price was the best out of all websites I checked.I will definetley use them again. The coat size ran a little large, which is good, because it allows you to wear a heavier shirt comfortably underneath without restricting movement. Keeps you nice an warm while working without making you feel like you're over heating. As far as wear goes, it has been a very durable coat.

Really nice coat. built tough like all carhartt products are. Runs big though. Tried different sizes but could not find one that fit just right. Longs are long and if you wear a 2x try a xl instead. Will try one more size. Would recommend this coat to anyone.

My first instinct was to return it. I have two major issues with it. First, if you're slim, forget it. The ribbed waistband on the medium is about four inches too big and just drops past my hips. Second, it's just not as warm as I expected. If it's below 30F I need to layer up. The shell is very durable. This is not a cheaply made light jacket.

I purchased the Kalkaska Active jacket and the Snorkel Parka. The Snorkel Parka is far better. As far as performance in arctic like weather both jackets are great. The Active jacket lacks in a couple of areas. The hood is lousy. It won't stay on in a medium wind which makes it worthless. The hood on the Snorkel is perfect. Shields you from the wind without having to worry about it blowing off. The pockets are a bad design. The pockets are too shallow. I work as a Lineman and for the first time ever I lost my keys (all 3 key rings) while on the job. A zipper or flap would fix that. This is supposed to be an "active jacket". The pockets on the Snorkel are perfect. The flap eliminates the possibility of losing anything. You are probably asking why I just don't use the Snorkel. The Snorkel is the best jacket I have ever purchased but its a little too long when dealing with my tool belt. Even though I can't use it on the job I had to keep it. What would make the Kalkaska Active Jacket perfect? Better pockets or a Velcro flap, a hood like the one on the Snorkel, a two way zipper, and a second inside pocket. I would pay extra for all of that. On the plus side the jacket is extremely warm, very durable, and even with the drawbacks a very good value.

This jacket is warm but comfortably lihtweight and easy to wear for outdoor activities such as snow shoveling. I recommend it highly.
