This is my first pair of Bates boots. The quality seems very good however saying these a Extra wide/4E boots is a flat out lie. At best they are a wide/2E and that would be pushing it.
I have shoes/boots from 7 other companies all are 9.5 EW/4E (except one pair of 9.5 W), all fit correctly and all the boots/hiking shoes allow for wool socks. The one pair that are 9.5 W are wider boots than these and fit better (they are same height, are insulated, & have a Gore-Tex lining).
I can get these on (with thin socks only) if I completely loosen the lower lases and undue the top ones completely, but without a rear hook I still end up smashing down the back so I am sure they will be destroyed soon, even if I can get them to loosen up enough to ware.
