Solved the squeakiness problem

I wrapped gauze around the tongue leather. This stopped the leather on leather rubbing sound. There is still a slight gauze rubbing sound, but it is still a vast improvement. To Danner: please do not put leather on boot tongues anymore.

Great Boot- Rough Break-in

I've had the 453s now for a few weeks. I hike 12-15 miles a week for exercise. The boot is great and fits well, I have narrow feet and most boots are too wide. However the break-in on these boots is excruciating. My right boot is finally comfortable, the left is still working in and was very painful at the start. My ankle was bruised and swollen and still is a bit, still sore on yesterday's hike... but getting better!

I love these boots! I've had over a dozen pairs over the years. I would have given it 5 stars but two things, first the laces only last a couple of months. I don't get why they can't make better laces or a boot that doesn't eat them so quickly. Second, it seems to be only with the dark tan ones that when you walk they squeak. It drives me crazy. My chocolate brown ones don't squeak. I've had a lot of tan pairs and they all squeak. I don't get why they can't make a boot that doesn't squeak. Has anyone in the company wore these boots?

15 years later and still a great boot!!

I purchased a pair of the Danner 453 boots over 15 years ago. I used them on many different occasions. I've hiked the Smokies several times, explored the Grand Canyon, used them in moderate snow, and hunted with these boots. I mainly used them in South Florida around the Everglades and I've also used them for casual wear or work boots. They were not too warm in the Florida climate and were perfect in the snow. They have never leaked when wet or when walking through streams. I simply loved them. I finally gave them up as I have grown over the 15 years needing a larger size plus... they started to smell bad. I decided to try something new and got the Mountain 600's. After a day of wearing them, I could tell that they wouldn't be as durable as the 453. The material is thinner and the sole is not as stiff. I prefer a stiffer sole and after a few hours, they were just not as comfortable as the 453. I decided to return them and immediately ordered another pair of the 453. I couldn't be happier. They are the exact fit and feel as they were when I bought my first pair. If you're looking at these boots... Don't hesitate. Take care of them and they will last you years to come.
