I have really enjoyed my Danners and have been a fan for many years but have found something that has been similar to all the past Danners I’ve owned. For the past few years my past few boot purchases have had a smell to them within a year and I was blaming my cat for urinating on them (the outside). Well, the reason I purchased these new boots was because my previous boots suffered the same smell but my cat had already passed away. My wife looked up this on the internet and people had mentioned that if the sole gets introduced to water it will emit an ammonia oder when it dries. Is this so? I normally don’t wear them in the rain and understand they are not water proof but is this why all the other Danners I’ve owned might have been because I stepped in puddles of water. Like I said, I don’t wear them in the rain but I do occasionally have to step into puddles of water on a rainy day. Other than that I still love the fit, feel and look. That’s why I keep coming back!

Almost everything about them is great. The only complaint is the tongue is a little misshaped on one boot so it folds up strangely with the edge of the fold being visible. I'm a little worried water and dirt is going to get in at this point and i've done about everything i can think of to fix it. Not sure if the stitching is too low or the leather was cut wrong.

These are sharp! Very good looking. Pleased with the quality!
My only gripe, which is minor. . . The only thing that I'd want in these would be a higher quality lace. I had to re-tie the ones that came with a couple of times the first day I wore them. I that, and the die on the leather rubbed off onto my socks. That won't last once I break them in though. Once I get some better laces, and break them in a little, they should be the perfect boot for me.
Side note: The "trendy" thing is to get a pair of Redwing's, or Thouroughgood's where I'm from. Though I looked into both, I'm so glad that I discovered Danner. I wear size 15, and most of the major boot companies don't have my size. This is the third pair of Danner's I've bought since 2021, and I couldn't be happier with the quality. I work in a warehouse and used to go through a pair of Keen's every 4-6 months. Since I discovered the Vicious, they are lasting me 18-24 months!
