Carhartt vests are designed to be worn over layers or under a coat. Like other Carhartt garments, Carhartt vests are labeled as either loose fit or relaxed fit. Loose-fitting vests will run on the larger side, while relaxed fit vests will fit closer to the body. Carhartt vests are also available in big and tall sizes, which add 2 inches to the body length of the vest. Note that vests fall higher on the hip than a jacket

Duck is the most common vest material. There are a variety of different finishes of Carhartt duck and each has its own characteristics.

- Firm Hand Duck is unwashed and untreated and is double-piled for additional durability. It features a very stiff, non-broken-in feel and can resist snags and tears.

- Washed Duck is a softer duck material. It has been washed and leaves the material with a broken-in feel.

- Super Dux® is a lightweight, abrasion-resistant material made of nylon and elastane. Its features include Rain Defender® and Wind Fighter® technology.

- Nylon Some Carhartt vests are available in 100% nylon or nylon Cordura®. These materials are often accompanied by wind fighting and/or water repelling features.

- Polyester Fleece Carhartt vests made from polyester fleece are both soft and warm. These types of vests are also moisture resistant, making them ideal for damp conditions.
Carhartt vests come in a variety of linings.

- Unlined is the fabric that makes up the outer shell of the vest. Unlined vests are great for warmer winter days or layering over other garments.

- Fleece is lightweight and soft. It is made of polyester and is the thinnest insulation lining available in Carhartt vests.

- Quilt is a nylon taffeta paired with lightweight polyester insulation. The smooth nylon provides warmth and ease of motion when taking the vest on and off. Quilt lining is great for working outdoors in colder conditions.

- Sherpa is a soft pile material. It’s made of polyester and acrylic and provides even more warmth in colder conditions.

- Arctic Quilt is the warmest Carhartt lining. Arctic quilt is a nylon taffeta lining quilted to a heavy polyester insulation, making it much thicker than quilt lining. Arctic quilt was built to keep you warm in the coldest temperatures.
