Carhartt hi-vis offers fabric technologies in jackets/coats, pants, sweatshirts, and t-shirts. That tech includes:

- Rain Defender® is a water repellent (DWR) finish that causes rain and water to bead up and roll off the exterior of a garment. While not 100% waterproof, this finish stands up to short periods of rain and moisture

- Storm Defender® is designed to keep you dry and comfortable in wet conditions. This technology is 100% waterproof, but features a breathable lining that allows sweat and body heat to escape. In many cases, Storm Defender® products feature fully taped and sealed seams, an added feature that ensures water will stay out.

- Force® is a patented, warm-weather fabric feature that wicks away sweat, dries fast and keeps you cool on hot days.

- Stain Breaker® is a fabric finish that allows stains to wash out smoothly.

Carhartt provides hi-vis gear that meets ANSI Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, and Class E standards. Here’s an explanation of each classification:

- Class 1 is the lowest class and provides the minimum amount of coverage and visibility. Class 1 hi-vis workwear is commonly used by warehouse operators and traffic attendants.

- Class 2 provides better visibility with additional coverage on the torso. It is more visible than Performance Class 1. Class 2 high visibility products are typically worn by inspectors, surveyors, first responders, roadside volunteers, utility operators, and mowers.

- Class 3 offers the greatest visibility in complex backgrounds and through a full range of body movements. It’s required in highly congested areas where complex lane shifts or other busy work zones may exist. This class is commonly worn by flag operators, roadway construction crews, emergency crews dispatched at night, and towing operators.

- Class E provides visibility to the lower body. Class E apparel is usually worn in conjunction with Class 2 or 3 to obtain the highest visibility. If Class E is worn with a Class 2 or 3 garment, the overall classification of the “ensemble” is classified as a Performance Class 3 Ensemble.

- Color Enhanced garments are simply brightly colored products of any color that have retro-reflective striping added. While color enhanced garments aren’t ANSI/ISEA rated, they are beneficial in lower-risk, lowlight situations where additional visibility may be necessary.
