Frequently Asked Questions

Carhartt's warmest jacket is style C003. It is made of 100% ring-spun solid cotton duck and Arctic-grade quilt insulation material. Its features are built to withstand the coldest winters. Features include; two-way brass zipper, windproof flap, and internal ribbed knit windproof cuffs.
Carhartt's warmest lining is Arctic-Grade Quilt. Arctic quilt is a nylon taffeta lining quilted to thick polyester insulation. The smooth nylon provides warmth and ease of taking the jacket on and off and the insulation creates maximum warmth. This lining was built to keep you warm in the coldest temperatures.
Cotton Duck is the most common Carhartt material. There are a variety of different finishes of cotton duck and each has its own characteristics.

- Firm Duck is unwashed and untreated and is double-piled for additional durability. It features a very stiff, non-broken-in feel and can resist snags and tears.

- Washed Duck is a softer duck material. It has been washed and leaves the material with a broken-in feel.

- Quick Duck is just as tough, but 30% lighter than the regular duck. It is lightweight and water-repellent due to its cotton duck and polyester blend.

Jackets that are not made with cotton duck include; Softshell, Cordura®, and Extremes®.

- Softshell is created with a durable nylon shell with a windproof and water-repellent finish.

- Cordura is a 100% nylon shell that features a water-repellent coating that keeps off light rain and snow.

- Extremes is a combination of Cordura and nylon. It is more durable than traditional cotton duck and is able to withstand abrasion and the coldest temperatures.
Most Carhartt jackets sit above the hip or at the hip. They are built to be worn over layers to provide an extra layer of warmth. If you prefer a snug fit, sizing down is recommended. Coats and parkas are longer lengths to hit below the hip to provide more coverage. The tall sizes generally add 2 inches to the sleeve and body length.

The most popular Carhartt jacket is style J140. It is made of 100% ring-spun firm cotton duck. It has quilt flannel lining in the body and quilt nylon in the sleeves. The J140 features two inside pockets, two large front pockets, triple-stitched main seams, and a heavy-duty zipper. The rib-knit cuffs and waistband provide protection to your arms and torso from the wind and cold air.
